Default Street/strip front swaybar?

I have a 68, is it worth removing front sway bar on a street/strip car? Its a big inch rat motor on a 1/8 mile track and limited street. also its in town only no highway (only 30-40 speed zones)

Why not just remove the end links when you plan on taking it to the strip? That way you still have the sway bar if needed around town.

The front sway bar accomplishes nothing on the drag strip, but is a must on the road. Removing the bar will remove some weight from the front end, but it will be hardly noticeable. For drag racing the rear sway bar is an asset because it can help to keep the rear tires more evenly loaded.

If you don't go slamming the car through the turns, then take the bar off and see how it handles on the street. For straight line driving, and gentle turning, you're probably not going to notice a difference. For drag racing, I doubt that the bar is limiting your suspension travel. But, what the pivoting friction of the bar can do is slow down how fast the front end of the car raises on a launch. And as you know, better front end lifts gives better weight transfer to the back, and traction to the rear tires.

How bout leaving it on and getting quick disconnects for end links like the Jeep guys use when they rock crawl

^ I thought about that too, but then you'd want to make sure you secure the flopping bar up somehow so it doesn't drop and snag on something. With the way he describes how he drives the car, a bar may not be needed. And the weight savings in front, although minimal, would still be more beneficial at the strip than not.

thanks for the replys guys, really. The car will not be a corner monster by any means. It has 15x3.5 welds on the front. Im just trying to get all I can while trying not to spend a fortune yet ( I like to install coil overs someday) But for now I have comp eng 90/10 shocks on the front with some moroso trick springs. Removing the bar wil be a trial and error
