Stock exhaust manifold removal, driver's side on 69 396
Hello Everyone, My exhaust manifolds recently rusted from the humidity. I am removing them now to get them ceramic coated. Passenger side was no sweat but the driver's side will not clear the steering box. It is a 396 car with power steering. Can I loosen the steering box and drop it down a little to get the manifold out or do I have to remove the box completely. Would like to to avoid that if I can. Any helpful hints will be appreciated. I have removed the spark plugs, temperature sender and anything else that looks like it willl interfere. Even so, the manifold will not clear the block and the power steering box at the same time. Thanks for your help and Happy Holidays.

If you have an engine hoist, hook it to a bolt or a lift hook on the engine, if it has one. Otherwise, put a floor jack under the oil pan, first spanning the bottom of the pan with a 2x6 or 2x8 board. Lift the engine slightly, remove the drivers side motor mount cross-bolt, and rock the engine up enough to clear the steering box. If rocking isn't enough, remove the passenger side bolt and lift the engine straight up. How much more clearance do you need?

Thanks Camaro 69. I have the perfect padded board I use to jack up the car at indoor car shows. Actually woke up in the middle of the night with the same thought as you. I don't think I need much room. And, as I always say: ''Everything is a major project." Will be trying the solution today.
