Sorry bro but unless you have some leads on who he sold it to there is no way to track down cars any more. A few years back the goverment passed all kinds of privacy laws no one can give out info on anything. Even a private detective can not help much.
Did you see the story about Papa Johns owner looking for his old Camaro. He had a 1/4 of million dollar reward for the finder and 100K to the owner. It still took awhile. The way it worked out every owner found the guy he sold it to.
You can try to post the Vin number in as many forums as possible. But if it is now owned by a car lover that did the restore on it there is a good chance it would not be for sale. I know if you showed up at my door it would take at lease 50K to leave with my car which is worth maybe 20K.
Your best bet is to find one close and just buy that. As a father myself I would guess he does not want you wasting money, Sure I would love to find my orginal 74 camaro but a 74 Z28 in real good condition would work also. The other thing is you have no idea what has been done to the car. It could have gone there a Restomod and got all hacked up to the way someone else wanted it and that assume it was not wrecked, parted out or converted to a drag car.
Good luck.

well i talked to my dad just asked him some random questions and he talked to the guy about 4 years ago and it was still in as many boxes as it was sold to him in and just as rotted so im gonna try and get the guys name out of him and try and find him and see if he still has it car is in horrible shape but thats not a problem would be worth it in the end
In some states, if you know the VIN of the vehicle, you can write to the states' motor vehicle department, and for a small fee, they will be able to locate it for you IF it is still in the same state, and not setting in a salvage yard.
I think your dad would like to drive it soon,so if you found the 1 in pieces that was his and it is rotten just like it was when he sold it I would buy 1 running so he could enjoy it and not hassell with trying to rebuild it.
