Hi all,
since some years i´ve been searching for a set of front cocktail shakers for my 69´convertible - w/o any luck...none available on eBay or other sales platforms, therefore, i now try this forum: Anyone who has a set for sale or know where to find a set? Living in Denmark does not improve the availability of used shakers in the market!
The car has a severe wobbling/shaking at a specific speed (40-45 mph), below or over this speed, it drives smooth. I suspect the missing front cocktail shakers being the root cause. Both rear shakers are installed (and should be working).
Looking forward to hear some (good) news - thx in advance!
Jesper
If it is from the shakers it would be VERY minor. It was common to remove these to reduce weight and many people can not notice the difference. These Shakers reduce harmonics. 40-45 MPH sound more like a balancing issue. It could also be a combination. Driveshafts are a common source after you have done 3D tire balance.
Most of the people that do chase these down are building a show cars that needs to be 100% original.
Do find the cocktail shakers available on Ebay from time to time
Check your idler arm for being loose
Have the tires balanced dynamically by a DSP balancer machine
The cowl shake and body flex is your issue?
See how much it changes with the top up

Thx for some swift replies,
propshaft was balanced some years ago, w/o any improvement. Tires were replaced and balanced (externally, not on the car) last year. At the same time, bushings in the upper and lower control arms on the front axle were renewed. Still no changes at all... But referring to the problem, it is more a wobble or shake, than a vibration - appering and disappering within the mentioned speed frame.
Hi and Welcome to the forum, Nice 69 Camaro you have in Denmark, Too bad you don't have swap meets in your neck of the world because I do see them from time to time (Pomona and Long Beach swap meets) but most shakers are the rear versions. My coworker has a 69 base and he had the same issue and it was the Pitman arm that was bad (connected to steering box) so I would start there and work my way down the suspension system. Do you see any unusual wear on the front tires? This vendor sells the front shakers when they are in stock or maybe contact them to get on a waiting list

When you say 40-45 miles per hour you are looking at a tire out of round condition or a slipped belt IMO
Tire balance is what you check and at the same time, inspect the lateral and radial runout of the tires
The factory runout spec is only .060
Most **** poor tires start at .200 and if you say anything about the out of round condition, and their tire warranty, they **** up a rope, and tell you that the 200 is within their specs
You can put a vibration app on your phone and see if there is a common hz you could convert to Cycles per minute. Then just look at what is turning at that RPM. That how we are trained to track down issues. If there no common Hz area for the vibrations, then the shakers could help.

Thx for reply,
Idler arm is not loose, and driving with the top up, do not change anything, unfortunately... and yes, cowl flex is exactly my issue :-)
Tires were replaced last year, and all balanced in a machine externally... (DSP?)
tires were replaced last year (BF Goodrich), but i did not check the roundness, of course... assuming, that when balancing, the guy who did it, would inform me! I will dismantle and check. Idler arm is tight, had also the steering box replaced last year, and visually from outside, nothing (idler arm) is moving, when turning the steering wheel from side to side
