Restoration or Resto-Mod
I have a 1967RS/SS. It has a later model (mid-70's) 350 engine and a powerglide. Other than the replacement engine, I believe the car to be original. (Although the trim tag is missing.) I'm trying to decide whether to restore the car, or do a resto-mod. If I could find a 1967 350 engine for the car, would it be worth more than if I was to modify it?? Also, is there any way to get a replacement trim tag??
What do you plan to do with the car? If the car is in a good rust free condition (nearly impossible to find), then a restoration might be the way to go though the missing trim tag does pose a problem with even a date coded project. Resto-moding though might cost you dearly but you'll have a modern drivetrain and suspension that would make the car a lot more responsive to today's roads. If you're building the car for yourself, make the car what you're going to enjoy most.

Thanks for the reply. The car is in outstanding condition. No rust whatsoever. I plan to build the car myself, and drive it often. So far I have been leaning in the direction of the resto-mod, but I was just wondering if a stock restoration would increase the value of the car. But as you pointed out, the missing trim tag could be a serious problem.

Sometimes people spend too much time and money looking for numbers matching replacement parts trying to return an automobile to its original condition. In the end it truly is between you and the automobile. Once restored to correct numbers matching, it leaves you scared to drive it like you would a resto-mod.
On the rear of a 69 camaro I read the following statement "My Numbers Don't Match... But My Family Loves Me Anyway..." and I believe that sums it up. I say build it like you like it and drive it --- driving it brings more pleasure than looking at it collecting dust in the garage!

Since your missing the Number matching engine and the trim plate you might as well mod it. But why not keep so it could be returned back to what you started with. Keep all your original part box um-up take pictures. Avoid weld in frame connectors. Skip cleaning up the firewall. There is a ton you can do to the car that is not permanent. CD player is a pain but there are options out there.
