Default red neck back yard tire truer?

Any body else find BFG's or the like available for 15" rims slightly out of round resulting in vibration at higher speed even after (hub centric) high speed balancing? I have original rally rims w/ no more than ten thousandth run out checked side to side/up and down, then rotated 90 degrees on the spindle and checked again to observe any lug centric variance, It's definitely the tires. My buddy has the same complaint so (usually after a couple of brews) we've been brainstorming ideas for a home made tire truer/shaver. Anybody try this before? ideas? Regardless, we're going to make this thing anyway and post our results/failure...stay tuned.

have you tried deflateing the tire and rotating them 180? our 34 ford had the same problem up front with a vibration at 55 mph so a tire shop rotated the tire 180 and rebalanced made a huge difference

I had the worst tire remounted at a different position on a rim and re balanced which is done hub centric by the way. IMO, original steel rally rims are ultimately lug centric. We've gone through countless rims while searching for a good set and have concluded our wheels are close enough to hub centric through our testing (rims/hubs/spindles). This is a tire problem, some worse than others. A tire vendor will claim it's a rim problem and dismiss our findings pointing out the slight variance the lip makes as the wheel spins on the balancer which seems to be just a manufacturing characteristic of these rims that doesn't effect performance. My bud and I bought BFG's about 2 years ago but from a different vendors, he has the same issue. Possibly a bad batch of BFG's in the market at that time, we'll see as I need new ones. I just don't think the industry puts as much effort into the precision of these types of tires.

bfgs are a "cheep" michelin there great tires but the michelins are far superior... get your self some mxv4 s8s 50k mile tire 195/65r15 or a set of pilot exhalto pe2s 195/55r15 only problem is its only a 25 mile tire but its really nice

currently running 225/60/15's on 7" rims. might could squeeze 235 frnt and wider on back w/wider rims but i like the ability to rotate.

ya the problem your going to run into (as far as michelin and bfgs) is there not making to many 15s any more... at least in any sort of performance tire those sizes are the only sizes those 2 tires come in now a days everyone has 17s and 18s... 16s are even becoming more rare

i just like bfgs radials for the look of the raised white letter and the better tech than putting like new repops of the wide oval bias plys or polyglass tires. i had bfgs on my 68 for a year and never had a problem then i had the money and went to diamond back red lines. they are a yoko tire with a red line added. they have held really well for almost 4 years now
