Default Realistic Price Range?

I think I have my expectations a little out of whack for the cost of a solid, daily driver condition '68 Camaro. I do not want to finance the car and will be buying it outright. For that reason, I have not looked at '68s for almost six years now as I have been saving for one. I was thinking I could get one that was a turn-key for $18-20k. I am looking for just a really solid coupe (no vinyl top; just don't like the look), 4-speed, small block, ps, pb. My expectations of the condition of the car would be the condition a '68 would have been in 1972-1974 (from areas that do not get snow).

Are my expectations THAT unreasonable? Perhaps I am just too much of a "penny pincher." I keep replaying a quote in my head that I read or heard somewhere: "We know the cost of everything and the value of nothing."

Oh, and I kick my own *** almost on a daily basis now for not buying that '68 SS (hugger orange, white SS strips, 4 speed) for $2300 when I was a junior in high school back in 1984. Why didn't I get it? It had a exhaust leak and my dad said I should pass. Frick, frick, frick!!

Maybe the economy and gas prices will bring prices down a bit. Or, I simply save for another year or so and look for something in the $28-30k range.

You should be able to get a good camaro for that. You'll just have to look around.

Yes, Easy to do! I like to keep an eye out on Craigslist.org (Chicago area) just for fun. The other day I spotted a cherry condition '68 Camaro Convert. for $20k. If you're looking for a coupe in that price neighborhood, you'll have no problems. I see good deals constantly.

Doc i can't believe you're not able to find a nice camaro for $20,000 ,, i paid $11,000 for my 67 in dec. of 06 and i had to negotiate with the guy for a little while and my 67 is not a verry nice car when you get up close to it, i just bought it to go bracket racing which my first time will be on May 16,17, 18 , hopefully all my frustrations will go out the window on that first pass, oh and talk about missed great deals, my older brother had a real 69 z/28 with the dz 302 that he bought in 1977 , he sold it in 1991 for 5,000 and he couldn't have asked me if i wanted to buy it at that time

I found this posted at the bot of the forum...not bad looking, but just a rough guess of what's out there and what they go for.

Thanks guys. I guess they are out there...just finding one near me has been as easy as I'd hoped. Granted, I could fly to check out a car, but I could only do that a couple of times before it starts cutting into the money for the car. Next year, my wife and I will likely go to Vegas for her friend's wedding and, if I do not have one by them, I'd love to find one on the trip and I could just drive it back.

Try Collectorcartraderonline. I found it to be a great source of Camaro's.

Default Thanks Arocars...

I've got that one already bookmarked. I have found several camaros, but the challenge is getting to them. There is an original '68 RS 4-speed with factory console w/ gauge package in Vegas that looks pretty nice for $16,500. Never wrecked, though there is what looks like a CB antenna that was drilled into the trunk deck. I believe the person selling is the original owner. There are few others in New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas. But, with kids being sick, wife traveling on business, and I am teaching summer semester in a couple of weeks, I cannot exactly take off right now. If nothing happens over the summer, then I get 3 weeks at Christmas and then another week in March for spring break. Also, during Fall semester, I have my schedule set-up so that I do not teach on Thursday or Friday (Mon-Tues-Wed sucks, though) so I'll have four-day weekends to "hunt." I suppose I could contract a company to inspect it, buy it, and then ship it to me...but where's the fun in that?

Oh, I just ran into a guy that has a restored GTO Judge in the next neighborhood over. Turns out, there is a guy in my town with 40...yes, that's right F-O-R-T-Y camaros...in storage and is not selling any of them. The remaining 20 or so are firebirds.
