Default Problem with engine sputtering..

I recently picked up a 1968 camaro with a sb 350 4 speed manual trans.. On my way home the car ran fine.

When it was time to pump gas I pulled off and the only choice I had was the lowest octane.. About 30 mins. back on the road the car started sputtering really bad..

I managed to make it to the next gas station and threw some octane booster in it.. Car ran good for about 30 mins and started sputtering again.. So I pulled off and did the octane booster thing again about 3 times till I made it home..

At home I siphoned most the gas out topped it off with 93 but the car is still sputtering.. I don't think I siphoned all of the "bad" gas but I figured topping it off would do the trick..

Im was pretty sure the sputtering Is from the bad gas.. But is there anything I may of messed up that's causing the car to not run correctly?

What did the gas that you siphoned out look like? Let it set in a clear jar for a while and see if it separates. With high gas prices, some gas station owners can be tempted to do things that are less than honest to "stretch" their supply. My neice once got gas that had antifreeze in it, and it gunked up/ruined the fuel injectors. You don't have that worry (injectors), and I don't see much more than your fuel filter getting ruined, depending on what, if anything is in the gas. You always have to suspect bad gas first, any time an engine starts to run crappy right after a fill up. If your gas in the jar does separate, chances are good the bad stuff will sink to the bottom. The same thing will happen inside the gas tank, and you may need to drain the tank, off the bottom. If it's water in the gas, but not an excessive amount, you can help it to absorb into the gas by adding a bottle or two of "Heet", which is an alcohol.

There did not seem to be anything funny with the gas, I actually put it in my daily driver and that's running completely fine..lol (yea times are tough) I think the motor is just set up to run 93 octane..

Even if that's the case, lower octane isn't going to make the engine sputter. Cause it to octane knock, yes. Maybe you just have crud in the tank and the filter is getting clogged. Happening after getting gas could just be a coincidence. What carburetor do you have?

I changed out the fuel filter this morning and I think that did the trick.. I only got a chance to drive the car around the block but it ran beautifully.. I will take it out tonight and come back with an update..

Thanks for your help "camaro 69"
