Here's a shopping list for you. All you need to do now is pay for it and wait for the big brown truck. LOL Sorry spending other peoples money is a trait I picked up from my wife. < Who I love dearly if she happens to see this!

btw...i was refering to "positive traction"...which USED to be advertised in detroit locker info..don't know if it still is...i had no idea that posi-traction was a gm thing...shows what i know(*** u me)...the offroad guys sometimes still refer to "positive traction" as "posi".....maybe we(offroad guys)are are a little "slow"!!?!!

i was gonna put that in there(i've heard that too)...but welded spider gears are weaker than a spool(i know from experience on that)...and i am from alabama...so i guess i could be considered a redneck....but im ok with that!

I have a eaton posi in a 12 bolt with 4.56 gears I am fairly sure it is factory stuff. I changed the springs to a higher pressure(it has metal clutches) because when it got hot only one wheel would spin( 29 x 10 slicks) havnt had a problem since. I believe if you go to the full spool in the 12 bolt you need to cut the axle housing ends off and weld C clip eliminators on. There is a mini spool but it is only recommended for the dirt track.
i had an open amc 20 rear end in my cj7 when i bought it...welded it up with an arc welder(7018's)...lasted for 2 trips to the mountains....i guess the heat from the welding screwed up the temper in the axles...then i put a spool in it...worked fine....i finally put a high pinion reverse rotation dana 60(with a detroit soft locker)....bulletproof
im getting of the subject..sorry bout that...

is the eaton better than the auburn "posi"....years ago detroit also made a limited slip diff....i've had good experience with detroit stuff...none with the other brands

Auburns wear out more quickly, fill the rear end with powdered metal which runs through all of the bearings and gears and they cannot be rebuilt.Eatons wears a long time, put very little metal into the oil and are rebuildable. So yeah, Imo, Eatons are way better.
