Default Pitman Arm

Just resealed and changed out the grease in my manual steering box. In doing so I mushroomed the stud on the pitman arm. Purchased a Moog pitman arm from Advance Auto Parts and it is longer than the one I have. Searching through this site someone mentioned that they made 2 for the manual gearbox. Standard is 5 1/4 and a quick ratio 5 3/4.

Steve's Camaro parts has a 5 1/4" pitman arm which states that it is for a V8 with power steering.

Beginning to wonder if I have a power steering pitman arm on a manual box? Can someone clarify which is the correct pitman arm for a 69 Camaro with a manual steering gear box?

What are the advantages, disadvantages or gains if I put a longer pitman arm?

Thanks Fernando

Longer arm will make steering ratio faster and steering effort harder.

I just ordered the Moog from Advanced too. The lady there was wondering why it specified the size. Now I wonder if I got the right one. I have power steering though. I just called and the size specified was 5 7/8. I guess we will see tommorrow.

Well right or not it made a good difference. So easy to replace given the right tools.
