Wow, a teenager with a car like that... and you survived to adulthood!

I had an old 66 El Camino that I rattle canned fire engine red on a windy day . It had a 307 that toward the end would consume about 3 quarts of oil every 150 miles It was cars like yours I dreamed about!

Let me ask you a question that I've always wanted to ask, especially when I was out cruising in my fire engine red El Camino lol. How does a teenager get a car like that? I mean, that's awesome that you had a car like that as a teen!

You know what's funny though, your old car is white with black stripes. Your current car is black with white stripes!

Nice car Bandit. Cars were just cars back then, and we drove them in the winter too. Senior year in high school (77) I had a 72 Dodge Dart, and my second car was a 69 Camaro convert., pic below. It cost me all of $750 to buy it, then the engine got rebuilt (bro in law was a mechanic), fixed the rusty quarters, new paint (which was cheap then too) and other add-ons. Over time I probably had $2500 into it, and couldn't get that much back when I sold it in 82.

It's not that hard to imagine. Just paint that exact same camaro a purple metallic and you would have my 1st car the year I graduated high school in 85. Saw it and begged my dad to let me buy it.

Very nice camaro Bandit. Wasn't it the best thing in your life to be young and cruising around in one of those? I made mine loud as hell back in the day.

yea, 9 years ago when i got my license i was begging for one like that too... my dad said that he would get one for him, when he retired and all 5 of his kids were out on there own. "you don't give a car like that to a kid like you" thanks dad... but to give him credit, i did drag race my pickup... i have a video somewhere of the first race, i was up against a 95 camaro (i bought it from the guy 6 weeks later) but i held up the race, when they were doing final checks, so i could put the tailgate down... i won... no one realized i had built the crap out of that truck. 350 bored to a 396 then stroked back down to a 350, running 11s. I cant wait to get back into building. (Just need a garage)

It didn't look like that when I got it. I gave $1000.00 for it. It had a crappy black paint job, I stripped it to bare metal and got it painted for $350.00. I bought the big block from a buddy for $200.00 and me and him put it in. Had it about three years and sold it for $3000.00. It was "fun" to drive in the snow with those 50's on the back. LOL. Yeah, I flip flopped on the colors of the two cars..........

Here's a couple more. Drove it around in primer for about a year before I got it painted.
