Does the car just sit outside uncovered all the time? The owner should be flogged if he's been abusing it like that. Bring a blanket with you and give the car a good rust inspection from bottom to top. Floors will be rusted out if it's been sitting open to the elements like that. How much $ he wants determines if it's a good find.

not from the vin in the window. if u can look at the trim tag on the firewall you will be able to tell when and where it was built. was it a v8 or I6 car, what color it was orginally along with the color of the top. also it can point that it may be a ss car. if there is a motor in the car. and you can get the vin off the block then you can use the last 6 digits on the vin on the block and compare them to the last 6 on the body vin to detemine if its #'s matching.

No trans but the console shows a 4 speed standard was what was there. there is a v 8 engine but all I could see on the engine through the grill was a power steering pump and the oil filter base is on the passanger side front of the engine ( not sure if that tells anything) Looks like white and orange interior with a white top. Also had radio and what looked like a/c controls, drum front brakes. Still unable to make contact with the owner.

You could pop the hood open (lever through the grill) and take a closer look. These cars aren't very secure, and it appears the owner isn't too concerned with it's well being anyhoo. The VIN will only tell if it's an 8 or 6 cylinder car. If the 3rd digit is a 4 = 8 cyl. car, a 3 = 6 cyl. car. What engine it is has now doesn't mean anything until you check the numbers.
