Default New user new 68 Camaro

Hello everyone, I just bought a somewhat restored 68 Camaro (matching numbers) from a family friend who's owned the car for about 25 years. I am the 4th owner and have all receipts and records dating back to when the car was sold to the first buyer. Really excited as this is my first classic car and felt I better join the forum in case I have any questions. At any rate, here's some pictures of my car....sorry for the sanitized post I'm just figuring out ways of reaching the 3 post limit so I can unlock more "goodies"...like the classifieds and such. Also I'm not a huge car guy so that's why I'm here...perhaps I can learn more than I know now.
  • Factory 327 w/ 4 speed Muncie trannie
  • Original Matador Red paint w/ black interior
  • Global West Suspension, lowered about an inch and a half
  • Wilwood front disc brakes
  • Holley carb
  • Edelbrock intake
  • Aluminum radiator
  • Headers
  • Magnaflow exhaust
  • Simpson seats
  • I think the added the rally wheels as well

If you look at the picture of the rear of the car, you'll see that it needs a little work on the rear window and the corner seam where cats decided to chew it in the garage where it was kept. I would also like to replace the trim around the front grille/lights as well as the rear lights. I may also ditch the seats and replace them with the original seats if I can find them. All in all it's a very nice car and was well taken care of. 151,000 total miles. 40,000 miles on the rebuilt motor and trannie.

I also found out that this car has the front and rear bumper guards (V31/V32) as well as the under dash courtesy lights. If any one can help me identify other features of this car it would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to CF Zak, sweet looken 68 there.
Unfortunately, the 68 has the least informative trim tag of them all.
Here is a good site for looking up RPO codes. You can use that to cross-reference options you find on your car. Chevy Camaro RPO Codes

Yup, that's the first site I found when I was looking for information on the car. So far I've figured out that the front and rear bumper guards were an option that only about 18,000 cars had and the courtesy lighting under the dash also. I'm just not sure how or where to find my engine, trannie, or rear numbers? I suspect these numbers would help me gather a little more info?

Thanks for the welcome...this forum seems very informative. I'm looking forward to learning a bunch about my car.

My next project is to find a nice lot and really take some nice photos of the car's exterior, interior, and engine. In the meantime I plan on taking the car to this shop here hotrodscustomstuff.com | Hot Rods & Custom Stuff builds, restores, paints, services and sells parts for classic autos, cars, trucks and street rods. Your official Do It All Hot Rod Shop. to get the top fixed.

From the same site: Camaro Decoding help on Chevy-Camaro.com
There you can look up the suffix code which will give the build info of your engine.
The site also has other part number info as well.
Here's another info source: Camaro VIN, Cowl Tag, and other Numbers Decoding

Awesome, thanks for the links I'll definitely check them out. In the meantime, is there a quick way of determining if this car has the 210 or 275 HP 327 without looking for the numbers?

No, the suffix code on the front passenger side of the block is what tells how the engine was assembled.

all the 275hp 327's came with a 4 barrel carb from the factory. the 210hp 327's came with a 2 barrel carb.
