New Owner - 67 RS Headlight Cover Question
Hello, everyone!
I am a new Camaro owner but not a new classic car owner. I had a '65 vette coupe that I drove 50 miles everyday. During the course of that adventure, I think I diasassembled the entire car, fixing, improving or replacing things as they went south. That included replacing the engine, interior, all harnesses, headlight assemblies, and installing a Vintage Air system.
My challenge today is not epic in proportions but, it is one that I need help with since I am no Camaro expert.
I know I do not want the constant trouble of the hideaway headlight door issues. I'd like to nip it in the bud and go with the '69 style 3-slot door look so I never have to worry about them. Besides, it looks better IMHO. So, does anyone know if there is a kit out there that has the same shape and bolt pattern of the '67 door cover but has the three slots of the '69 door cover?
As you can see by these pics, the car looks great but surely isn't "correct". And, I really don't care too much if it is "correct". I'm no museum, I'm a driver. Glaring "not correct" items on mine are, to name a few:
1. Rear end is lowered 1.5 inches
2. It has the 396 hood, but a 327 under it
3. Front grill lacks the "rs" emblem
4. Wheels, wheels wheels.
5. Brake pedal does not reflect the fact that it has disc brakes
So, you see, it really doesn't matter to me if it has covers that look like '69 covers.
Any help out there? Thanks for reading.

The only thing I could think of is just modifying the 67 hinges enough to add the 69 covers.. I think the front end of your car looks absolutely wonderful.. I wouldn't recommend changing them.. Your car looks awesome with those original hide aways.. my motors do not work on my car.. if I drive at night I just open them up first by hand.. i think you would be way happier leaving it the way it is than going to a 69 cover.

The more I think about it and look at what options I have been able to find, the more I think you're right. I am an engineer by trade and I usually cannot stand to see something not operate as it should. But, in this case, I think I will be doing more harm than good.
I am still exploring options and I'd still like to hear from other forum members on this. But, if I do nothing at all, that may be ok as well.

I agree Captain, you got a nice ride there! I wouldn't change much. I have the doors you speak of but have never looked close enough to a '67's headlights to see the differences. Mine do not work either. I have the same approach as 1967rs540. I rarely drive it at night and will open them by hand or just have the lights shine through the slots. I'm not sure if there is a size difference in the actual doors or not. If not, I would imagine you could fabricate the system to support the 69 doors. www.firewheelclassics.com has a good catalog with photos of the parts needed for both 67's and 69's. Good luck and once again, SWEET RIDE!
