new member looking for some advice
Hi Guys,
I'm thinking about pulling the trigger and buying a 69 SS clone coupe. It has a new crate motor w/4 speed, power steering, good paint and the body is solid. The car drives nice. Floor pans are new and the car had a lot of work done within the past 5 years. There isn't any rust to speak of. The interior will have to be gutted and replaced, though.
I've restored classic mustangs, so I'm not new to bleeding hands This would be my first classic Chevy....(but my 3rd camaro - 81, 85, 69?)
One thing I've learned about restoring mustangs is that there are lots of model-specific things to look for and avoid. SO... I'd appreciate any advice you guys could give on what questions I should ask, what to look for, and how much is too much to pay for this coupe. Sorry...no pics yet.
Thanks!

main trouble spots for rust is the trunk floors, bottom of the quater panels and around the rear wheel archs. also around the bottoms of the windsheild and rear window also is common rust areas. is the car at least a factory v8 car? a clone is never worth as much as the real deal. what interior does it currently have? std or deluxe? the trim tag will tell you alot of helpful info on the background of the car.

Thanks for the tips.
I'm told the car was originally a V8, so I got that goin for me...which is nice.
Interior is standard. Car came with a/c from the factory. Non-working now, but parts are there.
Will try to get the trim tag info and re-post.
thanks.

I have purchased a lot from rickscamaro.com site. if your going to do a true restore to factory specs then check around, you can find some OEM parts still out there but at a cost.
the factory reproduction parts will look just as the original does for the most cases. if your not worried about it as I see you said an SS clone then there are tons of interior parts on that site I pointed out and not at a bad price. the deluxe interior package looks nice and cost a bit more.

That sounds similiar to the 69 I just bought. It had no rust issues, PS/PB, nice drivetrain, just needed the interior done over (already did that), and some minor cosmetic stuff. I feel I got a great deal buying the car this way. Depending on price, I would buy it. A first generation camaro is like a rolling annunity, the only way you can lose is if you pay too much.
