New guy with steering ????
Hi gang, I have a 68 camaro with a 1965 327 sbc with hedman shorty headers, manual transmission, manual steering, manual brakes. It's time for me to do something with the poor steering. It feels loose and doesn't inspire confedence in high speed corners.
I'm not sure of which way to go when upgrading the steering. Do you go rack and pinion or power steering? Any advice, tricks, or experience that you all could bestow the FNG it would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks

I think the cheaper option may be to simply do power steering. But if your budget allows go with a rack and pinion setup. If "feels loose" is your only concern then you may need a rebuild of your steering box, or a new rag joint. It could also be some of your steering linkage bushings, which can easliy be replaced. Power steering shouldn't effect high speed cornering too much, it mostly helps during stopped or slow speed turning.
Good point. I don't do any autocross races just some spirited driving. I tend to get exicited when it comes to upgrading projects and end up killing my budget. The front end has been changed to the poly bushings and a big sway bar. Any exprience with the conversion kits like what CPP has to offer? Thanks blk69 for the pointer. Scott
