Default New Engine, New Tranny...What Gear?

So I finally ogt my 69 back on the road, it has a 496 BBC crate Motor making 500HP and 560TQ And is backed up by a Muncie M21, Right now it has a single wheel airplane gear in it... And I'm going to have Posi and a lower gear but can't decide on the gear? THis is just a toy and has no AC in the car so long rides are out... as I live in Houston TX... It's really a Street light to Street light fun to jump on toy... probably never get more than 30 miles from home.

I was thinking like 3.90 or 4.10? anyone have a similar setup or any advice before I spend the $$$!

THanks!

unless you plan on doing alot of 1/4 mile drives i would go 3:73 nice road gear and still gets you off the line quick!

I have 4:10's, and it does make the stoplight to stoplight driving fun. But, she's screaming on the highway. If you don't plan on any highway driving, then 4:10 will work great. If you plan on hitting the highway every once in a while, then I would lean more towards 3:73.

No highway plans! The farthest the car will get from the Garage is about 30 miles... Ocasional Drag strip passes... Maybe 5 a year for camaro events.

Sounds like 4.10 is the way to go, I just wat the car to be an animal TOY...

I have a new 2010 2SS 6 Speed for highway fun!

Will I have any problem making it through the 1/4 mile RPM wise with 4.10's? THe engine is designed to Make horse power to about 5300 RPM's? and the Torque peaks out at 4100 RPM's

Any guesses what the Car will turn in the 1/4 mile?

496 BBC 500HP560TQ
Muncie M21 4 Speed
12 Bolt 4.10 Posi

I'm thinking with some street slicks it should be in the high 11's ???????

I like 4:56's in a car like that,4:10's will leave a little left at the end of the 1/4 mile.
I've even seen guys run 4:88's with a big block & 4 speed on the street but that's getting pretty low.

Does anyone know of a calculator that will tell me what RPM I will be running at the end of the 1/4 mile based on transmission, gear, and Tire?

I went with 4.10 they are being installed as i type... I pick it up today

I had 411's in my 68 and it was fun light to light but now I've gone with 373's.
