Need Help Identifying Carb
Need to rebuild my Quadrajet Carb, but don't know exactly which carb is on the car. Napa shows 2 different rebuild kits and i'm not sure which one is correct.
Here's what I have:
67 Camaro RS/SS
350 Cu 295 hp
Auto Tranny (2-Speed Power Glide)
Factory Air Conditioning
Does Not Have Air/Smog Pump (I just bought the car, it might have had it when it was new. The exhaust manifolds do not have plugs/holes for fittings)
VIN # 124677N122785
The car has a Rochester 4 barrel carb. On the drivers side the body is stamped and says carb was manufactured by Carter for GM.
There is a round place for the stamped plate, but the plate is gone. Carb looks like it has been sand blasted.
What is the correct carb number (ie 7027202, 702721, 7027218)?
Thanks
Roger

Dynarider,
Good idea. If I can't find the actual carb number i'll take your advice.
I was using a Vin number decoder and found that the car was made prior in or before Oct 1966. That's within the 1st 2 months of production so I am thinking its carb 7027202.
I'm gonna pull the carb off the car tonight and see if I can find any other numbers that will help me.
Thanks,
Roger

The production date of your car isn't going to tell you whether or not somebody replaced the original carb somewhere along the cars 45 years of life. Getting the number off the carb is the only sure way to know what you have. Do the links above help any?
Took carb off motor last night and disassembled.
The number/stamp plate is missing. I found this number on the middle section of the carb: 7032750
Can't seem to match this number up. Anyone know if it somehow will identify my carb?
Thanks,
Roger

Yes, I think that 7027202 would be a safe bet if it is the original carb.

Rochester Quadra-jet carburetor OEM number identification
Dynarider,
Thanks. That web page and the other things I have found all point to a 7027202. I bought a carb kit from NAPA to fit a this carb. It has a diagram in it showing all parts and I believe jet sizes so I can verify that all internals match that carb since its what GM specified.
Anyway to get/make a replacement ID tag since mine is missing?
When I took carb apart last night evertyhing looked pretty good, except one of the plugs for the fuel well had fallen out. The last rebuilder did not epoxy them in place, nor did they install the foam pad that you can put below them. This explains the gas dripping in the carb.
Did these cars have a problem with vapor lock? The carb had a GM heat shield plate below the carb. I read that these were installed to help with vapor lock problems. I assume this plate should have a gasket on both sides of it, which it did not. I suspect that will help explain the low vacuum reading I was getting.
Thanks,
Roger
