need expert help - 69 z28 identification
wow, that is unreal it is getting that bad just for $$$, I also have a 2011 Synergy Green RS and I am glad to know what I have there is the real deal. I was hoping that the X3 was something that would really hold some proof, but to many owners and now me just wanting to make this a classic again. Life is full of tough decisions?
You might visit Camaro Research Group for further info - good reading material.
Standard code on rear axle pass side tube is BU - 3.73:1; optional is BV - 4.11:1; BW - 4.56; BX - 4.88.
Muncie trans should have partial VIN on pass side and code PxxxxA, B, or C.

Ok Camaro friends,
I bought the book by Jerry MacNeish, I also spent a good hour crawling all over the 69 I bought, here is some stuff I found: Honest opinions would be greatly appreciated? This classic needs restored correctly, so this is very important to me to do this right. 69 Z28?
The cowl tag is 11D , not 1D as I originally saw, rivot has it partially covered. VIN # is 124379N549071, those numbers seem to be more likely.
This is a no x code 69 but the X3 is behind the passenger side seat on the rear seat support.
Tranny is a P9R11 but the letter cannot be seen? not stamped that legible.
12 bolt 341 rear end with a BU code on the axle
5.750 pitman arm
front disc brakes
left frame rail dual exhaust support plate
water pump and aluminum intake match the 302 numbers in Jerry's book but the block is NOT a 302DZ, looks like a 1966 327 HA.
I am trying to list everything that is not motor related, I know it has been replaced.
The last time this car seen the highway was 1987 in the Pittsburgh area, the inspection sticker is from 1987.
Ok, now the fun, tell me what you think about this 69?
Thanks, Rich

If it's any consolation, falsifying a car's pedigree wasn't done much like it is today, because they were not considered collectible back then. Back in 82, I had a hell of a time selling my 69 convertible for $2,200, and it was a nice driver. That was a mistake.
Did you check to make sure the partial VIN on the block doesn't match the car? HA code also stands for a 69 350, 300hp, 4 bbl, manual trans, which are Camaro SS specs.

I was not sure how to do that with the VIN # but the date code on the engine block shows it as a 1966 block.
How should the VIN# match up?
I had a 68 I sold in 1988 and never knew any of these detailed tag information existed. I was young and wanted to drive fast, that was it... haha I want that car back now also....
when I was in my teens we had a 68 z28 (junk back then), a 68 coupe, my 68 SS clone, and a 67 convertible my Dad was restoring and then sold it. what I would have today??? Dang!!!

On a numbers matching engine, there would/should be the last 6 digits of the cars VIN stamped on the front pad of the block. With your block being a 66, that doesn't matter, since they didn't start stamping the partial VIN till 1967.

I checked the motor block and there is no vin#. I also forgot to write the car has the rear large bumper guards and the multiple leaf springs, it looks like 5 springs. Crg stated they have only seen one z with 5 ? After coming home and doing some more research, the grill is the molded off white painted silver and I sanded many areas on the car to find the original paint may have been the Olympic gold. Not sure what all the yellow on non visible areas would be? Factory applied for protection?
If it is a SS that would mean it cannot be a Z28, 4 spring rear leaf springs would be Z28 while 5 were typical on a SS.. Check the transmission for Vin number, unfortunately not all vin codes made it to the cowl tag. One tell is if they do not match, example the vin code is on the cowl tag. Some cars the cowl tag had the body sequence number on it and it was different then the vin number. If the Vin number last 6 digits were before the body number, that tag went to a different car. Example is cowl tag has 111222 for body sequence, but vin code is 111210 then the cowl tag was swapped from another car and placed on body. If cowl tag is 111222 and vin number is 111299 this it is a possible, not a guarantee correct cowl tag. Remove the wiper cowl cover and check the vin number and see if it matches that's a real tell on a vin number swap...
I guess the big question is to me, with the no x code, 11D date code , on a car that has not seen the highway since 1987 (before all this craziness on identification)
IS the X3 on the rear seat support valid enough to say this car at one time was built a Z28? it still has some yellow and has glue splatter.
Before me, the same gentleman I work with has owned this car since the early 80's and he said it was all about drag racing it.

No the X3 does not mean anything without something to back it up. You have a 69 Camaro. Seats are easily changed and X3 was not for a Z28 only option. Other things about the car suggest an SS and you don't have any documentation to prove anything.. So in the end it is a 1969 Camaro....... 11D tells you 4th week of November build date.
