Default MF engine suffix

Hey all! I have a 327 with an engine suffix of MF. The sites I looked at said that it came with a Powerglide and "A.I.R."

At first, i thought they meant air cond., but then noticed that other ones that had ac used the abbreviation "air cond.". This looks more like an accronym to me, and searches for it have come up with nothing. What does it mean?

It was for emission control ,The Air Injector Reactor (AIR) system pumped air into the exhaust manifold(s) to help complete the combustion process. The AIR system consisted of the air injection pump (aka smog pump), a fuel mixture control valve (1967) or an air diverter valve (1968-9), check valves, air manifold assembly, and air injection tubes (one per cylinder).

Thanks for the response. So does this sacrifice some performance? Is it bypassable or even worth doing that? If it is, anyone know of a good write up on how to do that?
