Disk brakes require more pressure to work than drums so some kind of pressure proportioning device will be needed to provide different pressure to the front and rear brakes. If you re-use the unboosted drum brake master cylinder you will need to step on the pedal much harder to stop the car. The best bet would be to get a kit with all the necessary parts and make your life easier by not having to re-invent the whole thing.

I had factory manual disc/drum setup with proportioning valve on my '71 originally. I finally got tired of the amount of pressure it took to lock the brakes up, or even stop normally. I guess I was spoiled by power assist on everything else I drove.
I converted mine 11 yrs. ago by adding the booster, and I've never regretted it. It stops so nice with a booster to help! Can't believe I drove it and raced it for 28 yrs. with manual brakes! I remember many times going through the lights at over 100mph and both feet on the pedal to make it stop in the shutdown area!
