Yeah, the style of the ashtray cover does make one do a double-take (pic below). To avoid interior burns, maybe the ash tray should be called a candy wrapper receptacle!
And camaroboy, good question. A fold down rear seat is a possibility, but arm rests don't automatically mean it, as those could be the deluxe rear panels that came as part of the deluxe interior package. The front door panels however, are not the "deluxe" with the built in arm rests. Hmmmmm

I went there yesterday and checked it out. Looks good, okay fit and finish. The paint job however looked nasty. There was a body shop guy there wet sanding it. It had orange peel all over the place, he said it looked like a 15 year old single stage, no clear, paint job, the color was coming off as he was sanding. Now the ad online says they are asking $49,900. Looks like I'll keep on looking.

Sounds like you got turned off by seeing what would normally go on in a body shop, using a single stage paint. Yes it can have an orange-peel look, yes you can color sand it, and yes you will see some color coming off. All that is normal. Base/clear paint jobs by nature can be more goof proof, you have to be a real good painter to lay down single stage perfectly. Base/clear gives you a deeper shine, but single stage is easier to touch up and blend a ding or scratch without having to repaint an entire panel like you would have to with base/clear. If you really liked the car, I would go back and see what it looks like once the car is buffed out. When done right, you can get an awesome paint job with single stage. Not to mention, single stage gives the car more of a natural look for the year the car it is, that car wasn't painted base/clear back then.

Even if they get that paint looking really, really nice, I wouldn't pay over $40k for it.

nice car,

but they have done a quick detail job on it.. rear shocks are black only towards out side.. white inside..radiator hoses are only clean on the top 1/2,the front spindles are rusted by the ball joints
just because of lack of detailing when assembled,, no rubber door stoppers $ 5.00,,,,,,,, ect..

10 bolt rear end w/ no traction bars,, no frame connectors and a 4 speed trans w/ that much motor....Hmmmmm...

not a high dollar pain job,, rockers and bottoms of doors barely have enough paint..

engine compartment looks very nice..interior looks very nice ....trunk area looks very nice...

with a little black paint and some elbow grease the bottom could look very nice too..

seems like a lot of money ??

do not take my post wrong.. the car is much much nicer than what I have..

just wondering if it is detailed out enough ( bottom side ) to cover the price...but it does cost a pile to have one built.. Hmmm..

are you sure the motor is really what the valve covers advertise ?

The motor does look a little small for a 572 now that I look at it. But I find it hard for someone to pass anything less off as one. Maybe ask for proof of documentation? Also, with all this, you could easily get them to come down on price.

So how big is a 572 supposed to look, it's still considered a "big block" Chevy. There aren't medium block Chevy engines, just small and big. GMZZ572 Crate Engines.
