Key and Cylinder Question
My ignition key barely works. It catches and I have to wiggle it and back and forth to get it to the on position or backwards to the accessory position.
I only have one key. Not sure if the key is the problem or the cylinder. How can I tell, or how do I fix it. Is there a number or something on the cylinder that I can use to have anew key made? Thanks Roger |
Chances are,if your key is worn than the cylinder is aswell.Your best resolve is to order a new ignition switch that will come with keys and they are not expensive.
There are a few different suppliers. |
These are very inexpensive and are easy to replace, i did it in my 70 after my key got stuck in the crank position.

the switch is seperate from actual key cylinder so maybe the switch is still good. I just replaced my switch and the key cylinder is different you can buy a new cylinder with a new key.
Camaro Ignition Switch | 1967-1981 | NPD |
You didn't say what year your car is. The ignition switch & tumbler is in the dash on 67-68 models. 69 has the lock tumbler in the column with the switch down low operated by a rod. Both systems work in very different ways.
