Production on your car started in August 1966 for the September release of the new 67 model, which is generally (with some historical exceptions) when the new models came out. A December car is already 5 months into production.

Nice Camaro, congrats on the buy.
Enjoy it.

Helluva deal. Early production had round traction bars.
Does the rear axle have the bracket and no bar?

Being an earlier production car, your axle would not have a bracket, as GM didn't realize they needed that "fix" till later.

So yesterday I took the car out for the first time since my purchase. I didn't really drive it much when I looked at it other then around the block. I noticed today that the tach is at 3000 while doing only 50. I 'm thinking that I may need to change the gearing in the rear.

Does the engine sound like it's zinging over that fast? Might want to confirm with another tach, or a tuning tach if you have one, to make sure yours is reading correctly.

I did seam to be turn high. When I stopped the radiator startd to boil over but that was after I turn the motor off. I just crawled under and looked for the rear axle stamp. It is PJ 1129G.

What's stamped on the outside tells nothing about what might have been put on the inside.
Jack both wheels off the ground (block securely), put trans in neutral, and turn the driveshaft while counting how many times it turns to the wheels one revolution. If say the driveshaft spun about 4 times, that would be 4:10's. This is assuming you have a functioning limited slip, where both wheels would be spinning in the same direction.

Thank you. I just did that and it was about 3-3/4 of turning on the driveline to complete on tire revolution.

Then you have 3.73 rear gears. 3,000 rpm's @ 50 mph seems a bit high though. Have someone pace you with a "normal" car and see if your speedo is accurate.
