Default I am looking at this 68 RS/SS

I am going to be looking at a 1968 RS/SS coupe in very good condition next week. 325hp 396, factory air, auto, power disc brakes, console, special instrument package, rally wheels and some more factory options. It comes with documentation confirming these as factory specs and the engine numbers match. It may have more original components, but I won't know until I look at it. I am having a hard time finding similarly equipped cars with original engines to compare to from a value standpoint. I have been fairly active on the Corvette Forum and I tend to roll my eyes at these kinds of posts, but I am looking for some guidance on desirability and value on this car. If it were a mid year corvette or a mid 60's Chevelle I would know enough that I would not have these questions, but I hjust do not know enough about Camaro's, except that I really like this car. Thanks in advance for any insight.

Correct year, and welcome to the club.
With docs in hand, confirm they are present. One thing in considering is the A/C working or not. R12 is expensive nowadays.
You might visit hagarty.com -&nbsphagarty Resources and Information. for pricing.
Sounds like she is very well equipped, good for you.

Value will vary greatly depending on how and by who did the restoration. The car could have a modern authentication which is normally done before the restoration. When you restore a car there are levels of parts that can be used. IMO there are 3 levels of parts. Level one (Functional), (High quality as good or better then stock) ( true stock replica that even a camaro expert can not tell its a repop) The last one could cost 10 times the cost of its high quality brother even though they look almost the same..Also there are many parts of a restoration can not be seen after the job is done. Having a car restored by restoration shops with reputations for doing good work adds value. the opposite end of that is one parts installed incorrectly that can be seen will give pause on how the stuff you can not see is done.

Its the same with body work. What may be completely a acceptable body work that will last 50 years may be a do over for a concour show car. Also paint jobs and body alignment can be too good.

You may not be looking for a concour grade cars but this will have a effect on the valve. This why the the value of the car can vary from 40k to 90k. As a general the level of the restoration will have more effect on the value of the car then the options. The options are the toppings but if the Sunday underneath that has the most value.

If the car is much over 40k you may want an appraiser to look it over,

Just a FYI all document that GM supplied can be ordered on line. These forged documents are very good with the proper ageing, they can even fake out judges. It is also not illegal to have these made to win a show. Most of the big value cars have a traceable past with signed affidavits from previous owners, a old picture goes a long way. I remember one guy found a ticket in the glove box with the vin number and the model listed as Z28 from 1968 4 weeks after he picked up the car. .
