Hello, based on what I've read, convertibles needs the caniters on all four corners for stability. I've seen a couple of convertibles (1967 camaro and firebird) without canisters, and the owners claim no issues, whether being honest or not. I've looked online for replacements, and if they can be found, the cost varies depending on the condition (under $800 for all four), but not sure if the installation is easy. Thanks for any info in advance.

 

i know they are important on a stock camaro depending on what been done to strengthen the car like connectors and other stuff they might not be needed. ive heard they are a job to get out of a car. without the canisters the can have alot more cowl shake and hitting bumps can cause it to shake a little. I just drove a bone stock 67 convertible and even with the canisters the cowl was shaking a little bit.

thanks, guys. I've also read the same link, camaro 69. didn't all first-gen camaro convertibles have them? if so, why would anyone take them out, especially when it is a job to take them out, just wondering..

 

They could have been removed during a restoration and not put back in, or damaged in a crash. Those who don't know what they are or what they are there for, might have gotten rid of that "useless dead weight that GM put there for no apparent reason". Car manufacturers do that a lot you know, just to get rid of parts that are laying on their shelves!

 

that or your convertible was a parts car to another so they took them out to use in another.

 

yah, probably in a crash or parts car..btw does anyone know where the front canisters are located, trying to find a picture but so far no dice. i will post if i find it too.
