Default Help estimating car value?

Hi all,

I recently inherited this car. It is a one owner 68 RS. Originally a 327/powerglide. Some hack mechanic swindled my grandmother out of the 327 and put in a 307. Aside from that it is all original. AC, AM radio, etc.

I am trying to determine the cars value so that I can sell it. I have zero interest in classic cars and would rather not waste the resources/space keeping it in my garage for another 25 years, though I am sure it would increase in value.

The odometer reads 65,000 miles, but could have spun over. It's in very good condition though... so its hard to tell. I have no way of confirming either way. It has always been garaged and has never left Arizona. No rust, paint is shiny, non smoker. Starts right up and drives fine.

Any rough estimates? I see them on ebay going anywhere from $5000 to $75000?

Thanks!

Its ashame you do not have the original motor. Even the damaged engine. Any idea what happend to the original rims? RS should have Rally rims like mine. Assuming everything looks solid underneath I would guess 15K full retail. It would sell pretty quick at 12K. Its ashame you did not have it 3 years ago. They where bringing 25K

My first 69 had the same type of stock wheels with the dog dish hub caps, kinda neat now in a way. Rally wheels weren't an RS included option though.
RPO Z22 Rally Sport: Includes special grille with vacuum operated headlight cover, front valance mounted parking lights, lower body side molding, belt reveal molding, wheel opening moldings, rear valance mounted back-up lights, RS emblems on grille, fenders, and fuel cap $100.
What a buy that was at the time. Looking at the interior, it looks like those miles could very well be original. What you have is a survivor, minus the original engine. Crap that hurts, given the circumstances. Still, I would expect it to fetch a minimum of $15k, considering it's originality. Cars like yours can easily be worth more than the same model that's been restored, because it hasn't been "messed with".

Thanks for the replies, $12-15k is about what I assumed.

Do you guys think it would be worthwhile to track down a 327 and put it in? I mean if it won't add more value than the engine itself costs, I wouldn't do it.

It isn't that I'm not into cars... I'm just not into old cars

A 327 that is date coded close to what the original one was would be the next best thing to being there. But I don't think you'd make the investment back in the sale. A buyer would prefer a 327 over the 307, but the car may sell itself just the way it is.

yep 12-15 sounds good to me. i wouldnt waste time with a 327 being it wont be the original most buyers will probably want to do their own engine build 355 or 383 or even a BB.

if i was closer i would do 12 g today!!! but i have to many toys as it is!!

Thanks for the replies.

I got what I feel is a "solid" offer of $14,000 on the car... heres the kicker.. the guy is a car dealer back east, and would be spending another $1500 on top of that for covered transport and a plane ticket to deliver me cash.

Do you guys think I would be selling it to low? I'm pretty hesitant given the guys story... It's obviously worth at least $15,500 to a dealer.

My head is still spinning from all the emails I got when I put this thing on craigslist! I'm not hurting for cash so there is no rush, I just don't want the damn thing!

Thanks for the help!

Haha, gotcha!

I'll clean it up, take some better photos then list it nationally.

What would you recommend I set the asking price at?

Shame on you!!!
What were you asking, $15k? Seeing the large response you got, and the quick offer, I would ask just under $20k. It's a heck of a lot easier to negotiate the price down than up. It's all found money to you anyway, no matter what you get. Car collectors drool over cars like yours; unmolested, unrestored, clean, with relatively low miles. It's got a lot going for it, even without the original engine.
