Default Headliner Installation

Hello All,

I think I am going to tackle installing the headliner this weekend. Does anyone have any tips or tricks they would like to share. I have heard horror stories. It can't be that bad, can it?

Just last weekI replaced the headliner on my camaro. Ihad no problems what so ever and it was a very simple process. My suggestion would beto make sure that you have enough people helping you do it. I laid the headliner material out flat on the board and then folded the material in half exposing half of the board and half of the backside of the material. After spraying the board and the backside of the material with glue (and allowing timefor the glue toget tacky)I had two people hold the material over the board as I smoothedit downstarting at the middle and working toward the outside.AfterIsmoothed all the creasesout of that side, I used the same procedure on the other side.I found that its easier to create a smooth finish with this half and half method. Good luck with it and I hope your as happy with the results as I am!

Usually, you install the new headliner on the support rods and cut out for the dome light. Then, using a piece of cardboard or thick paper stock (to shield anything from the glue, like windows and such) spray the contact cement on both sides, the metal of the roof interior and then the headliner material. Depending on the outside temp., it could take 5 to 20 minutes to "tack-up", which is almost dry. Press the headliner onto the metal and slip the trim on to hold it all together. Work in sections so that you don't get ahead of yourself. It's really not that bad when you plan it out. Test some material on some scrap metal if you've never done contact glueing.

I had an oldguy at an upholsty shop do mine for about $40. Small price to pay for pro work. I watched him and it didn't look too hard. Little glue, little pulling and presto! Pretty much how Jonny nitro said. Just start at the middle.

that's why they are called pros. they make everything look easy.

when it comes to headliners and rugs, I like to let them sit outside in the sun for quite a while before I try to install them. just makes them easier to mold into place
