Default headers

Hi, any recommendations on headers?I've got a 68 ss 396.What are the best headers to use? I don't want something thats going to rust, nor do I want chrome. What are the coated ones? How much do they change color, peel,or anything else?Anybody have any experience with these? Thanks

I'm actually looking into headers right now. The coated ones are Ceramic Coated. They say that they are coated inside and out so the heat goes through them and out the exhaust faster instead of staying under the hood. But I've also heard that its just for looks. I have a friend with a set on a blown 350 that are 15 years old and havent rusted but its just an ocassional driver. I know they are expensive, Its like $200 just to send your set off to get coated. I'm looking at a set of Summit headers, they seem to be alot less expensive. Someone told me that they are made by a "big name" manufacturer for them. I just have a 350 in my '69 and a average coated set is around $300, Summit has their own set for $190. You should check them out. I'm searching the forums to see what kinda luck people are having with them. Summit warranties them for 90 Days. Hope this helps.

ceramic coated are great for resistance to corrosion. give this company a call.3/8" thick flanges and thier headers are made in such a way that head gaskets are NOT needed. i didnt believe it at first till i bought and installed a set. no leaks, i always get compliments on the high quality of the ceramic reflective sheen. very reasonable and youwont be dissapointed.

Thanks guys,I was looking at the ceramic at Summit last weekend.I live about 20 miles from Summit.I took my 6 year old daughter,I told her we was going to "toys are us".She was dissapointed.I don't want to buy something and not have it fit,I've got a 68 SSa/c car ps,pb.Another thing I need to know is about the striping.I got a Matador red car/red top, black int. From my investigations it should have a white stripe across header, overtop fenders to bodyline then back about 3/4 along doors.Should this be painted or sticker?
