Default Guidance on steering gear box

Looking for guidance on steering gear box. 69 Camaro with 350 and power steering. I've read previous posts and tried to follow the suggested checks. Steering is sloppy, good amount of roll and sway. All steering components are new and tight. Don't remember if the steering box was replaced or just cleaned and painted. Wheels off the ground, when I turn the column at the rag joint I have a lot of play at the rag joint but it doesn't move the pitman arm. The hex head adjustment bolt on the steering box will only rotate a total of 3/4 turn. Is this normal or is it possible I have bad internal components in the steering box? Appreciate any help

if your rag joint is original or old, replace it

new rag joint. One more note. With the gear box out of the car cannot move the pitman are or rage joint with out using a screwdriver for leverage on the rag joint posts.

I had a similar issue with my original 68ps gearbox. The car is a complete rebuild so I didn't want to take any chances, and I didn't want to buy one off a shelf or off ebay. I ended up having it rebuilt by PowerSteering.com. Had it completely rebuilt and updated to a quicker ratio that works with original pitman etc.... great price and had it back in less than 10days. I would suggest them, if you're at that point of replacing/rebuilding.

Just my 2cents.
