gettin some work done on the 68

You're missing the conversion spacers that should be put between the spring perches and shock plates. The way it is now, the shock plates could tweak/bend and loosen the leaf springs, which is unsafe. What I'm referring to is included in this leaf spring conversion kit: MONO-TO-MULTI LEAF CONVERSION KIT

And your three leaf springs keep the shock plate from wanting to bend up and close that wide gap how?

talked to a few guys at team camaro and they suggested removeing the rubber pads as they did but still will have a small gap but no issues with theirs after 2 plus years like that???

As you noticed when you took your old springs off, they were sandwiched between the perch and shock plate with both of them clamped together, the plate had nowhere to go. With any kind of a gap, the shock plate could tweak, and all it takes is a fraction for it to make the spring a "loose" fit. I see you double-nutted the u-bolts, which is fine, but things could still work loose, especially if you like to romp and stomp on the car. But then, who reallly does that? Another option is to put on spring plate type traction bars. Those throw the lower plate/perch sandwich concept right out the window, but they are gusseted so much, they won't tweak. Out of curiosity, do you get much hopping in the rear when you put the car in play mode?
