Default Front end Rebuild

I got a front end rebuild kit for Christmas...you know the one with ball joints, tie rods, poly bushings etc. Anything in particular to note about this job or just jump in and knock it out?

Take pictures. Not only for you to have a referance but also for you to post up here for us/others to see how its done!
otherwise, read through the instruction book first, over a cup of coffee... then jump into it.

Try to remove everything as one unit and lay it out. Assemble the new one as close as possible to the old one. This will get you closer so there is little adjustment needed for alignment later.

If ever covering unfamiliar territory, I prefer to work on one side at a time. That way you have the assembled side to fall back on should you get stuck as to what goes where.

All good info. I was planning on counting threads on the tie rods etc. so I can put the new one's in the same position. I will absolutely only work on one side at a time, just a weekend, driveway mechanic here. I believe the only special tool I should need is a ball joint fork or seperator which I already have. Am I missing anything?

Have the ball joints ever been replaced before? If not they may still be rivited it place and you will need to grind off the rivits and replace with bolts. I found this out when I rebuilt my front end on my 68.

I'm not positive, but I'm relatively sure they have been replaced at one point or another.

If you're using poly bushings, DO NOT skimp on the lube. They are usually pretty stingy with that stuff, so before I attack any suspension work with poly bushings I go to my local auto parts store and buy more of it

If you don't use enough, you will regret it in the end.

Thanks, I'll go out and get some extra lube before I get started. Waiting on some longer days before I get started. Probably spring time.

just make sure you get the right stuff for poly bushings. Regular stuff doesn't work with them
