If the kit was designed to work with drum brake spindles then there is really no reason to replace the spindles other than doing a drop. A conversion I recently did for a customer utilized the existing spindle, which had drum brakes. The kit was from Stainless Steel Brakes.

I converted my 67 using a wilwood kit. It comes with 4 piston calipers, fit on the drum brake spindles and at about 600$ it was the cheapest way I found to convert to disc. (Part #140-10996) I did have to buy brake hoses and an adjustable proportioning valve separate. This isn't pro tourning caliber stuff but for a daily driver and the drag strip its worked well for me.

For these conversions...did you have to use 15" wheels?
I was instructed to replace my 4-piston calipers (which were leaking) with single piston ones. This included new rotors, backing plate and bracket. No one bothered telling me that 15" wheels were required with the new-style of calippers.........what a mess!
I ended up rebuilding my original 4-piston calipers and reverting back to the original set up.

I had 14 on the front and 15 on the back. After the conversion the front still fit, but the rear didnt. I just happened to need new wheels anyway so I got 15 on the front and 16 on the back now.
