Default Engine Swap Opinions

Hey Everyone,
I am a newbie to the forum and was hoping for a bit of help. I have a 1968 Camaro with a four speed and twelve bolt posi and originally had a small block. I am looking to drop in a new crate motor so I can continue to drive the car while I rebuild the original motor. I want something which will run on pump gas, makes solid power at least 400 horse/torque, and will allow me to keep everything stock from the original car. Thought about dropping in a 406 and wanted to see if anyone had any opinions. Thanks, John

why just not go with a crate 350 from GM? lot cheaper to buy than a 406
