Block casting numbers and it's date are only one part of identifying what car an engine came with. On the right front of the block is a pad with the partial serial number and codes that identify what that particular motor was installed in. This code would identify the motor assembly plant, date of assembly and the car it was to be installed in. A 1969 302 block code would end with DZ. The partial serial number should match the sequence portion of the car's VIN to be numbers matching. The attached pdf may help explain what I'm talking about.
