engine casting number questions?
How's it going everyone. i'm fairly new to owning a camaro and everything. i finally got around to trying to figure out what kind of 454 i have. i'm a little lost and was seeing if anyone can help or point me in the right directions with the numbers i have. On the back of my driver side i have this number. 3999289 and there is a big P next to it. Above it has GM T 14 and on the passenger side i saw H 13 73 can anyone please help me translate all these numbers and does anyone know how much hp this has? i guess this was out of a truck? Right by my fuel filter on the front of the block i also saw a number 30302CHMO and on the driver side was 1930030 i believe. I really appreciate the help. thanks

Hi Casey..
3999289 is the 454, 2 bolt main block, used from 72 through 78. It was found in the 72-74 Corvettes, Chevelle , El camino etc...
P stands for passenger car motor..
H 13 73 is the date code Aug, 13,1973
30302CHMO is most likely internals components of the motor
1930030 Is probably vin code related..
Best guess anyway..

Since production model vehicles were released in or around August, your 1973 cast (not assembled) block would have been put into a 1974 model. That casting number was used in the Corvette, Monte Carlo, Chevelle, and trucks.
30302CHMO doesn't make sense to me though, the 454 didn't have HMO or MO suffix codes. Make sure you're reading the numbers clearly, or perhaps you're picking up some other unrelated numbers. Were those from in front of the passenger side head? Look for codes on a pad above the timing chain cover too.
1930030 should be the partial VIN of the vehicle it came out of. FYI, production numbers for the Corvette were 400001-up, so that engine is at least not from a Vette.

ok thanks! and yes the 30302CHMO and 1930030 are from the passenger and driver side heads. I most likely added unrelated numbers. thanks for clearing things up guys. I'm guessing my engine is in the 230-270hp range if i was googling correctly haha. Now i just need to figure out everything else my father-in-law did to camaro engine wise.
