Default Door Alignment

I was gonna start trying to get the doors aligned today on my '67 convertible. I'm not really sure what needs to happen. On the driver side, the window class is about 1/2" from meeting up with the roof. The door itself looks to be tighter at the top, with a wider gap on the bottom (see pictures).

On the passenger side, the top rear corner of the door glass overlaps the rear quarter glass by about 5/8". There is no weather stripping between these windows, yet. The door also looks to be tighter at the top.

Any I'm not at all sure which direction these need to go in. I'm pretty handy, but have never done any body work. Is this an easy job, or something best left to a body shop. Any idea what they would charge to do it?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Bullwinkl,

The biggest challenge I (personally) have in car restoration is the allignment of the window glass. I find Convertibles worst than hardtops. In fact, I have invented a few words that are not repeatable in this form while adjusting windows.

I would suggest that you allign the door so that it fits neatly wrt the fender and the rear quarter opening. Then allign the window afterwards. DO NOt change the door to make the glass fit...that is certainly not what GM did.

There are "stops" that may be adjusted so that you can make the window travel frather if you need. One is on the window regulator and the mount.

There are even ways to move the window forward and aft: There are two bolts that you can loosen and shift the window forward adn back. You also have some in/out adjustment for teh top of teh glass: This is done by adusting the window tracks bottom screw.

It is not an impossible job. It is IMHO not an easy job to get it just right. Be prepared to spend a few hours...and be prepared to start over a couple of times. Hopefully you do not have power windows as that makes the job even longer.

Your best bet is to read the Shop Manual and Assembly Manual.

Best of luck.

Let us know if you need more help.

You don't align your doors based on your windows. You either align them with the rocker or the quarter, whichever you want your lines to be better with (because those are both unmovable bodypanels), then you adjust your fenders to them. I prefer the quarter to door gap to be the better of the two

Your glass is totally adjustable so those are the last thing you do

Thanks guys! I had no idea that the windows were adjustable. That make life a whole lot easier.
