Does this need to be covered?
 

[Sorry if this is a repost; I made a post on this topic a few days ago and it looks like it has vanished. If it was deleted because I broke a rule, I'd appreciate it if someone would tell me.]

I have a 1969 Camaro 350 SS; I've been working on it for a while and I have the engine about where I want it, so I've moved on to amenities like the ventilation system. I have a question, and I've not been able to find the answer in any of the manuals I have for the car.

When the car is in motion, I can feel air blowing into the passenger compartment by my legs. It isn't coming from the vent on the side near the floor; it's from somewhere else, maybe near the pedals. The airflow is only there when the car is moving, and it gets pretty warm after the car has been running for a while. I don't think there are any rusted openings in the chassis (I've not seen any).

I've noticed two openings in the firewall, but I can't quite figure out what they are for. It looks like there might be a place to screw a cover over them, but I can't figure out what the cover would be called (if it exists), and I haven't been able to locate a picture of it in the assembly or maintenance manuals.

Can someone take a look at the attached pictures and tell me if I should be covering these holes up, and if so, what the part to cover it with is called?

no need to cover. just access ports for body to frame nut/bolt


check under the dash for openings, such as brake/clutch rod, speedometer cable, wiring etc


heater box/controls working properly?

Sounds like heater control cable may have slipped. Does heat increase when turning on blower motor?
