Crate Motor Advice?

Crate Motor Advice?
I need some advice on what crate motor to drop into my 68 Camaro… Currently my Camaro has a 1973 L48 350 (200HP) backed by a new TH350. The engine started making a knock noise a couple of months ago. Rather than drop money into that engine (which is a 2 bolt main) I want to upgrade to a 383 stroker. I have done some searching for crate engines and came up with a couple possibilities (BluePrint Engines 405HP/440 ft-lbs 383 and Dominator Engines 452HP/516ft-lbs 383). Unfortunately I don’t know how good the engines are from either so I am looking for any recommendations. I live in San Diego CA and would have liked to get something local if I could but I cant seem to find any good engine builders in this area. My current budget is to stay around $4K (full dress) and I would like to get as close to 450HP as I can. Thanks in advance for any help.

Something else you need to think about and that you have not budgeted for is building the rest of the car for that kind of hp.
450hp will start tearing up rear ends, transmissions, drivelines etc and you'll probably need to upgrade the cooling system and motor mounts etc too.
Then there is the body flex from the added torque so subframe connectors are in order and so on,it can cost as much to prep the car for big power as what you'll spend on the motor.

Cost a little more then you want to spend. I have always been fan of the GM crate motors. As Y2K said there will be a huge investment in making the car ready to handle that kind of torque. All 383 are torque monsters. Your "new trans" life will be messured in minutes if it was not built to handle the 383. If its a stock rear it to will have a very short life. 460 Ft lbs of torque is more then enough to twist the whole car.
Your not going to find to many people giving much in the way of warranties on race motors.
