Default Convertible Boot

Has anyone ever seen or found a better way (i.e. custom) to attach the Convertible Top Boot on a 1967? The factory boot attaches with clips to the trim piece, but the tight fit ends up pulling the trim away from the body. Thanks in advance for any help!

I had this prob myself..... than I found the issue the repo clips are ever so slightly different than the original ones and they are supper tight the originals do not pull up on the molding. now finding original clips are next to impossible to find had to buy to old boots and take them off to get them.
