I set up the 68 427 with electric fan only and while it kinda works I am going to add a stock clutch fan. All of the fan blades I have bought off Amazon are made to spin opposite so they would push air into the radiator instead of pulling it through. I have returned 2. I have an older flex fan with the correct direction and I am thinking about modifying it to bolt to the clutch. Does anybody see a problem with this?
Thanks,
Scott
To use EL and mechanical fan, you would want EL "pusher" fans mounted on front of radiator and a 7-blade 18" metal fan and clutch on motor to "pull" air through radiator. Also a stock fan shroud
Right - What do you think about me enlarging the hole in my flex fan so it will bolt to the clutch assembly? I have the fan already it's just not one that normally bolts to the clutch.
flex fans are generally considered POS but to just try to see if a mechanical will help, go for it. Any mechanical fan needs a shroud to effectively work.
The fan shroud is the most important part IMO
And the fan needs to be just inside the shroud, and fit the shroud
My small block 68 had 2 fan options one was an inch smaller in diameter and i bought that one
Come to find out, it does not fit my shroud as well as I'd like, so I will be getting the larger diameter fan
I've finally got all the correct pieces in place. It does run cooler. When I give the fan a spin by hand right after stopping the engine the fan spins easily. I thought the clutch would cause the fan to feel more like a solid fan when hot but that's not the case. It spins easily whether hot or cold. Ideas?
I called Hayden - they make the fan clutches. I installed their 1705 a few weeks ago which it's says is for a car like mine but after talking to them yesterday they suggested their 2705. It arrived today. Maybe I should just hope for cooler weather!
Or more radiator, volume is king, (put the radiator in the trunk and you'll have 30 quarts of coolant to overheat)
Try making your heater hoses 20 feet long with 3 heater cores in series
I realize, there is nowhere to put any of that in a Camaro
This thing (Banshee) 421 Cerval cylinder, cool head, the works, 14 to 1, runs HOT
I have 2 trans coolers, that I removed from radiator side tanks, installed in both cooler lines running to my radiator
It helps when I ride flat out
