musclecars prices go up and downall the time. right now, I believe gas priceshave a lot ot do with it.
only the true classic Camaros (67-69) will remain almost steady through it all. the 70-73 Camaros are starting to now hold their prices over the last few years, but that could just be a fluctuation, time will tell.

whenever the economy has suffered a little, prices have dipped because a lot of people can't afford the extra unnecesary things in life during those times. it's just the upper class of cars that remain steady because usually those people own their cars outright so they aren't costing them anything extra

all I can say is that I bought my car for about four grand in 1990 and now I've been offered over twenty-five grand more than once in recent years

 

How can you put a price on the fun you can have with your family. Not to mention the accomplishment you can have once you have been rewarded for all the hard work of your particular project. I am still amazed when someone comes up and takes pictures of my car - can't get used to it looking so great! That alone is a wonderful feeling and a compliment especially when you do the work yourself.

Yeah, that would be logical IF (big IF here) the author's article comes to be true. I suspect that it would take a while to trickle down to parts, but it's a reasonable expectation.

 

here in los angeles the values are crazy.....ive had first gens for about 20 years now and ive never seen them worth so much... irecently bught a rolling body for 1500 no front end included......in '94 i bought my real ss/rs for 3000!!!!! times have changed.......gasoline does affect demand on these cars but it does not affect value.....those who can afford them are the ones buying them.

 

I am with you. Here is south east Michigan (Detroit metro) Price is still up.
I went to a local cruse night Sunday at Bakers of Milford and they said they had over a 1,000hot rods come and go .
This is not a car show its a weekly get together every Sunday. They do give a few trophies for best ???
We have cruse nights every day of the week some small some big at bars restaurants bowling Alleys VFW halls ext,.. Bakers claim they are the largest cruse night in the country? This being said old hot rods are at a premium here.

 

I saw this on another site and reply similarly. While prices can fluctuate, I believe we are realitively safein our hobby cars as toys or investments. The article refers exclusively to BJ and the ridiculous price trends they have seenon high end investment vehicles. I'm realistic on what my car is and what it's worth - some people aren't.However as long as you are willing to keep up with market trends they can be decent long or short term investments. I have enjoyed nice profits on flipping classics the last 5yrs.

In the end you have to remember -it is a finite market as their not making anymore of them.

 

now im not arguing with you but they do make new ones....they may be souless but they are camaros of steel.....this worries me 'cause it opens up the market to rich guys and can de-value cars as the tributes do......not too many can afford copos or Real SS's and so people accept this and regular Camaros dressed up as or with really good quality work surface with values higher than the true car they are pretending to be.........i've heard "so what you can't tell it's not a real SS.......and iis true you can't. the real ones only become valuable to those who will truly check for codes (like me) and not the masses.

 

Let me share with you: When I set out to buy a 69, I was only going to buy a SS/RS ( It was always my fav back in the day)....then I decided I could buy EITHER a SS or an RS. Then....I saw so many bastardized cars (clones, tribute..whatever you ant to call them) that I got to thinking..."Hmmm...they're all 69' Camaros...all came off a GM assembly line somewhere...the metal is the same...the engines were WIDELY optional...so if a RS is basically a "visual" upgrade....and a SS is basically a "performance" upgrade...why should I care WHO put the engine in...or WHO put the trim on?" In other words, because this is NOT an investment for me (just fun & memory lane) I could care less about X codes etc... Think about it...X codes are pretty meaningless outside a "collector" or "investor's" mentality or market. They are a simple stamp GM used for ID purposes.

So here I am, in the process of buying a 69' that was originally a 6cyl...that now has a nicely built 350 in it...and Z28 trim. I will have it painted when I can, and I will either "re-clone" it as a SS or l;eave it a Z, but I'll decide that later. My point is this: I'll have the cool car I always wanted, complete with new interior, carpet, paint, brakes etc.., and 99% of the public won't know the difference. In fact, nobody would know the difference until they looked under the hood. And me? Hell, I could care less now.

Don't get me wrong, I fully understand the "technicality" of owning a "real"...whatever. I just changed my frame of mind about it and I feel great about it. And truly, I almost had a "real" SS for less than 2K more just a week before I decied on this 69'. I'm confident I'll be happy as can be with it. And lastly, outside us freaks, lol, 90%+ of the public wouldn't know what you meant or care, if you said you had a real RR, RS, Z etc... They'd only know ..."He's got one bad a$$ car!" [8D]
