Default Broke my hood, help!!!!

I just found this forum, and I hope to participate in it, but right now, I did a bad thing and I need help. I took a spin in my 67 and I think (I hope) I didn't shut the hood all the way. at about 40-50 mph, it popped open, all the way back. I got over safely, couldn't close it, and reversed home (I was only a half mile or so away, in my neighborhood).

I have some gouges in the paint, naturally.
It doesn't look like I damaged the hinges, just the bracket they connect to on the hood. both of thehinges ripped out of the brackets. one side (drivers side) still has the bolt, passengers side does not. the hood is actually resting on part of the hinge, the part that ripped out of the bracket. So to me it looks like the bracket on the hood needs to be replaced. I looked at Year One and D&R classics, and can't find just that part, it looks like they sell the entire hinge as a set. $$$. I'm going to call them tommorrow to see if they sell just that top part. Does it seem like I am on the right track?

if im seeing it correctly you broke the hinge itself. even if the hinge was still intact, from what you discribed they both need replacing anyways. the hood will never aline properly. Sick

Hey, consider yourself lucky. Replacing the hinges is a lot easier and less costly than if you had folded the hood back instead. You can always find decent used originals on fleabay.

Oh. Thanks for the quick response.
The link you sent seems expensive, $130 each.
Would this be the same thing:

http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/f...ain2.asp?cat=8

AJ864LHRH LH/RH hood hinge pair, 1967-1969 models, reproduction. $106.00

or

As you might see from looking at my pics, parts don't have to be original

as is stated in Rick's ad. they are first notch in quality. they rate all their parts. your best bet is to probably call them and ask them what the actual problems are with repros.

you have to ask yourself how someone can sell a part for $37 when the originals are not even near that price? there has to be a reason. a small difference is usually ok, but that big of a gap is usually a big hint of something

I say this too much, but it is so true. you get what you pay for

Thanks for the link, SS396. Those look promising.
Do you know if I need to order new springs, or can I use the ones from the broken hinges?
1969 SS, I don't know about the discrepencey in price, and sometimes you do get what you pay for, but folks also overcharge as much as they can. The Matt's Classic page has a set for $625. are they that much better than any of them? $625 for hinges. Do they come with Playmates to install them? or $33. or $105.
If the $33 last a few years, and I make sure to check the hood is latched from now on, it's worth it.
I am not a restorer, nothing in this car is original, I put less than 1000 miles a year on it, so I don't need the Abrams version, I don't think. I do understand your point, but just because one is more $$ doesn't mean it is by definiton worth the difference (to everybody).
