Brake issue on 68 SS

Wink Brake issue on 68 SS

I have rebuilt a 68 SS from the ground up. My problem is a brake issue. I have had the brakes serviced- new master cylinder and all 4 wheel cylinders replaced as well and new shoes and front drums. The car will run prefect then the next time the brakes will drag and over heat and then seize when the car is stopped. Any comments appreciated.

i would take it back and make the shop that did the work fix it. sounds like something was not done right. springs to old, installed wrong or worn, sticky peddle or incorrectly installed master cylinder. is it all four brakes messin up?

Yes it is going back to the shop tomorrow AM. There has been all new springs installed in the overhaul.

I've had this very thing happen to me years ago with a different 69. Ten bux says you have air hiding somewhere in the brake system.

It is usually all four but started with just the left rear.thanks for your comments

Apparently the power booster was causing the drag. The car was hoisted and the brakes were pumped (with the motor off) and each wheel would spin freely. As soon as the motor was started, there was a slight drag to each wheel. (which in all likelyhood increased as the wheel got hot). Apparently there is a valve in the power booster that was leaking to cause the drag. I'm picking it up later today and will let you know if it is OK.
