Body parts
Hi everyone I am new to this site I have a 68 coup.I have it torn down and am ready to order new parts fenders door shells radiator support. Now the question is who .there are alot of suppliers.I am looking for quality and dont mind speanding extra for good parts. This is a ground up restoration. So who do you guys reccomend? I am just getting started.
i agree with orocker when restoring my 68 rs/ss i used npd for everything on it. a fender all of my missing interior parts, emblems and spoilers. there parts are good and the prices are fair. it depends if you buy the repop or original stuff. i went with as much original parts as i could because they seem to fit better. they cost more but they are worth it in the long run
Im restoring a 67 and i got a lot of from Classic Industries. After I had all of my sheet metal I learned of a place called FirewheelClassics. They are located outside of Dallas Texas. I ordered a few door parts and a few outfits of my little boy and i had my shippment in two days, which really ment a lot to me after waitin a total of 32 days for me to recieve a disk brake conversion kit from year one.
Hi Ralph,
The higher priced fenders from Classic Ind. are made with the original GM stamping dies. They are generally a better fit and require less bodywork. They are not as good a fenders that were made in 1970 since the dies are quite old and well used. Because of the age of the tooling and the fact that they don't use a top grade steel like would have been used in 1970 they still require filler and sanding.
The cheaper fenders are reproduction parts. Probably the biggest PITA about repops are the fit to the doors and hood. The gaps need much more work (welding) than do the parts made in the GM tooling. If you use repop fenders make sure you do all your bodywork with them mounted to the car, they tend to flex more than the originals. This will change to high & low spots that need filling and sanding. When it comes to reproduction parts do your shopping for price. There are only a couple of plants that actually stamp out the parts. Many suppliers are selling the exact same parts, they just stick their label to it.
I think NPD and Classic Ind. both market Dynacorn replacement panels as is half of what Goodmark sells.
