Default Alternater - Built in regulater vs external regulater

I am working on a 1968 Camaro RS and it has a external regulater and all the parts stores around only have alternaters that have internal regulaters. How do I get around this?

really? my 68 camaro still has the external regulator and i walked right into napa and they had one for my camaro. you might have to go trough summit or speedway of somekind of order catalog. im suprised that the local parts houses dont have one or cant get order one for you

My bro owns a Carquest and when I looked up a new alternator for my 68 it showed options for either an external regulator or changing to an internal. You might have more luck going in with the regulator telling them what its out of and they might have it on there shelf and just not know it
