Adding U17 console gauge cluster to my base 67
If this has been asked before I apologize (searched beforehand) - I have a fairly base 67 with a base dash (Speedo + Fuel gauge & idiot lights) and D55 center console. I don't like driving a 60 year old car without knowing how hot it's running or what the charging situation is like, so I would like to add the U17 gauge cluster that mounts to the top of the center console (I think). I know I will need to buy the proper harness, U17 cluster and big tachometer; but I have some questions:
1. Can the big fuel / idiot lights gauge that occupies the right side of the main dash cluster next to the speedo be easily removed and swapped out for the big tach (once I have removed the main dash cluster and have it in front of me)?
2. I assume the oil pressure gauge is fed by a line (like my 65 Corvette) that is plumbed into the engine block - Do I need to drill a hole in the firewall for that or is one already present?
3. Back to the tach topic, this is a 210 hp PG (auto) car - which tach (redline) is correct? Could you even get U17 with an automatic?
4. How did the U17 gauge cluster mount to the console, originally?
Thanks guys.
