I have a 69 Camaro that’s all 4 drum brakes and manual brakes no booster. Needing to get get complete brake kit for safety. So thinking oversized disc brake kit and do suspension at the same time. Just looking for safety and nice comfortable ride. Not looking to break the bank and make it a show car

What is a good cost effective brake kit and full suspension kit? 4 or 6 piston and why?

Do I need to know the tires and rim sizes I’m putting on before getting the brake kit to ensure its right for the car?

If this is just going to be a cruiser vs a track auto cross car than a standard front disc rear drum power brake kit will work very well compared to your 4 drum manual system and cost considerably less than something like a Willwood, SSB or Baer, etc 4 wheel disc brake kit

Yes rim size needs to be the starting point especially with any multi piston disc system. Those systems will dictate a minimum rim size & backspacing. You can get single piston calipers more like what would have been stock that fit 14 or 15" rims from Right Stuff

If more just a cruiser than Moog or Proforged replacement suspension parts (A arm bushing, Tie Rods, Ball joints, idler, pitman, etc) are fine. Same with their springs. Summit brand 1 1/8" front sway bar and a set of Bilstein shocks. Replace the rag joint if its original or worn

 

Thank you. Was thinking just do front disc leave the back drum but since I’m changing the rims and you will see the brakes and calipers may just Finnish it with all 4 disc for the look.

Z-28 and or F-41 suspension for a start with a good gas shock .For a start .And maybe something like a later 1979-81 firebird 4 wheel brake type system .If you don`t want to go too crazy.

Also, check new application as most new calipers may need 15 inch wheels vice OE 14 inch wheels.

 

What's your budget? Our shop recently installed a Wilwood front disc conversion on a 66 Chevelle, was very happy with how it turned out. The kit for our Camaro costs $575, which is pretty good for a quality setup. Includes everything you need, has 4 piston calipers, and clears 14" disc brake wheels. Or, if you have 15" wheels, no worries at all. Watch out for some of those cheapo kits online that have 2 piston calipers, you get what you pay for.

 

Looking for recommendations for suspension, on my 65 malibu I did right stuff brakes (4 wheel) and full UMI suspension with coil overs it is a cruiser and it handles as well as any modern car. For my 69 Camaro I am leaning towards the 4 piston willwoods (all the way around) as I will drive it a little harder but the suspension is completely new to me and I just started researching. I want it to drive as well as a modern car with light tracking ability pricing between $3-5K for suspension.
