Can anyone comment on how solidly a 69 automatic can be converted to a 4 speed Muncie? I mean, if a good mechanic does the conversion, will the end result be as reliable and solid as a factory 4 speed? Has anyone done this and had good (or bad) luck?
Thanks,
Jeff

Years ago I had a different 69 and converted it from auto to stick. I got most of the parts I needed from someone selling parts off a wrecked Camaro; trans, shifter, driveshaft (the yoke splines are different), pedal assembly, z-bar and rods. Flywheel and clutch assembly I bought new. The rest is a straight-forward swap, as your car was built to accommodate either. You already have a hole in the firewall (has a cover screwed on) for the clutch rod to pass through. The subframe has threaded holes to mount the z-bar bracket. And your engine (if it's still vintage) should have the threaded hole for the pivot ball.
