Default 68 wheels and tires

i am new to the site today. so this is my first post. i have a 68 327 convertible since it was new. it is pretty much original except i put power disk brakes on a few years ago. i (think i)am ready to replace the original wheels and caps with rally wheels. going from 14 inch originals to 15 rally . i was planing on 15" x 7" with G70-15 firestone redlines . any opinions..one way or the other thanks ! jim

Welcome, and I think that setup will give the car a nice look.
Before and after pics would be a good idea too, we like show & tell here!

Default 68 wheels and tires update

i was on the phone with the tech dept at classic industries, ready to order, and they advised me to double check for clearance.... i thought i would have plenty of room with the 15x7 rally and the g70x15 redlines.... is there some risk that these wheels and tires are too wide or too big ? .... if so is there a safer solution ?

I have a 68 convertible and although I haven't driven it yet it has 15x7's on it. There are no rub marks on the well worn tires.

What they told me to do when I purchased my redlines was to take a tape measure along the wheel wells and calipers to make sure there wouldn't be any rubbing, if your suspension and wells are stock I doubt you'll have any problems with 15x7, even if you happen to have rear disc brakes.

Oh, and if you're ordering from them, take note that it may be a long time before the wheels get to you, depending on how close you live to california.

My 68 runs 15x8's with 235/60's and there has been no rubbing in the 3 years I've driven it...

Also,
1969 SS posted the following information (in this forum) a few years back:
Fronts
Backspacing wheel width tire size
15" 3.75 7.0 225/55
16" 5.0 8.5 245/50
17" 5.0 8.5 255/40
Rears
15" 4.875 8.5 28x10.5 (which would be around a 245 or 255)
16" 5.5 8.5 255/50
17" 5.5 9.5 275/40
